Education System in Turkey

12-year compulsory education system in Turkey consists of three stages: The four-year primary school as the first level, the four-year secondary school as the second level and the four-year high school education as the third stage. The children start primary education at 7. Those who complete primary and secondary school can continue four-year high schools, which are basically providing general, vocational and technical training. The schools that focus on a specific program are called as high school, technical high school and vocational high school.

According to the data of 2018, the number of state universities was 112 and it was 69 for private universities. 6 of 7 million graduate school students are studying at state universities.

Private Universities in Turkey
Private universities are not directly connected to the state, rather are operated autonomously by a foundation. It is known that some private universities in Turkey offer vast opportunities to their students and boast of their quality and fame. The language of education is generally English in private universities. Most of them also have English preparatory classes for students without foreign language proficiency.
