In the last year, foreigners have purchased over 68,000 real estates in Turkey. The total value of purchases and sales made to foreigners in the land registry records exceeded 40 billion Turkish liras. Iranian, Iraqi, and Russian citizens prefer to buy a house in Turkey. While the Marmara and Mediterranean region are preferred the most, the megacity Istanbul takes the first place. In 2021, the number of foreigners who acquired housing in Istanbul reached 26,667. Antalya took second place. House sales in Alanya are increasing rapidly. In 2021, the number of houses bought by foreigners in Antalya was 12,598. In Ankara, the number of homes sold is 3,705. For each city of Mersin, İzmir, Bursa, Yalova, Sakarya, Trabzon, and Samsun, the sale number of real estate was approximately 1500 houses. In the cities of Hatay, Artvin, Bitlis, Gümüşhane, Ağrı, Hakkari, Mardin, Muş, Tunceli, and Ardahan, houses have never been sold to foreigners.
However, it is foreseen that the demand for home purchases from Anatolia has increased recently, and these numbers will increase in different cities. After Iranian, Iraqi, and Russian citizens, British citizens are among the foreigners who have bought residences in Turkey for many years. Due to its sunny weather and natural beauties, British and Scandinavian citizens prefer cities such as Muğla and Antalya.
