GENERAL INFORMATION
Located in the Thrace region of Istanbul, Esenyurt district neighbours Buyukcekmece, Avcilar, Basaksehir and Beylikduzu districts. A road linking the E-5 highway and TEM (E-6) Highway passes through Esenyurt and divides the district into two. Having a surface area of 57 km2, the district gained the status of municipality in 1989 thanks to its growing population. With a population of 846, 492 people, the district has approximately forty-three neighbourhoods as of 2015.

TRANSPORTATION AND LOCATION
Esenyurt is easily accessible from many parts of Istanbul thanks to the E-5 and TEM Highways passing through the district. The area, where public transportation is really well-organized, can easily visited by buses arriving from central locations (e.g., bus numbers 76E, E58 and E57). Central areas such as Bakirkoy and Taksim can be reached through the D-100 road or it is easy to travel to these areas by public buses. In addition, with a short minibus journey, it’s possible to reach the districts around such as Buyukcekmece, Beylikduzu and Avcilar. Travelling around the district will be more comfortable with metrobus and a metro project planned to be implemented in the near future. Surely, metrobus and soon-to-be-completed metro project will relieve the transportation.

EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS
Esenyurt is a district where private educational institutions are very common as well as the public schools. In Esenyurt, there are reputable institutions of Turkey regarding pre-university education such as Doga College, Okyanus College, Ugur College, Era Schools and Final Schools.

Esenyurt University, the largest educational institution in the district, was founded by “Yesilkoy 2001 Education cultural Health Foundation". Esenyurt University, which has 4 faculties, 2 schools, 2 vocational high schools and 3 institutes, was established in 2013.

HEALTH INSTITUTIONS
Esenyurt district has a total of 1 public hospital, 4 large private hospitals, 10 medical centres, 1 eye diseases centre, 26 health centres and family health centres as well as one dialysis centre. Esenyurt Kadioglu Public Hospital, which opened in 2008, consists of 3 blocks and 20 policlinics. Besides the public hospital, the district has Istanbul Reyap Hospital with a bed capacity of approximately 300, Doga Hospital with a bed capacity of 81, Eslife Esenyurt Hospital with a bed capacity of 75 and Esencan Hospital with a bed capacity of 119.

SOCIAL AREAS
Green areas: There are 54 parks in Esenyurt. These parks where the residents take daily walks safely as well as spending time in the playgrounds with their children, are also being improved with afforestation works. Recep Tayyip Erdogan Park in Esenyurt is known as the biggest park in the district with its surface area and facilities. The park includes a 7200-sqm pond, Turkish bath, Finnish bath, sauna, swimming pool, a restaurant with 650 seats, cafeterias, an amphitheatre with 200 seats, sports areas with various tools and trails, dressing rooms and showers with 2 football fields.

Museums: Pelit Chocolate Museum is one of the most interesting tourist attractions of Esenyurt. Founded in 1957, the Chocolate Museum is also the first of its kind in Turkey.

Sports Facilities: There are 22 sports facilities run by Esenyurt municipality. It is possible to find up to 32 branches and course opportunities such as aerobics, boxing, basketball, taekwondo, Zumba and hockey. In addition to the sports facilities offered by the municipality, there are many special sports halls in the district.

Culture and Art Centres: Esenyurt Cultural and Art Centre, which is located directly across from Esenyurt City Hall serves Esenyurt residents with two technological cinema halls, exhibitions, galleries, cafeterias, a library, a course area, free wireless internet and study rooms. The cultural centre, which also serves in various districts of Esenyurt, enables a highly active social life for Esenyurt residents with concerts, theatre performances and seminars.

Shopping and Entertainment Areas: Esenyurt has a large number of shopping malls. In addition to the shopping malls, which include hundreds of shops, cinemas, cafeterias, entertainment centres and malls such as Marmara Park, Akbatı and Torium, there are a number of shopping areas where residents of the district can meet their needs and have a pleasant time.
